Emily is a UKCC Level 2 coach and pony club accredited trainer and keen member of British Dressage and British Eventing, Emily currently competes 3 horses, Rascalini is the smallest of the bunch at 15.2 but the most advanced horse training at PSG level.
Minnie is the biggest at 17.2 (we’ve stopped measuring now as scared she is now bigger!!!!). She is the youngest at 6 years old competing at Novice / Elementary level and Abbey is my event horse / Irish bog pony competing at Novice British Eventing successfully, she practically turns her hoof to anything!
All Emily’s horses have very different personalities, weaknesses and strengths so her training methods change on each horse from day to day depending on what mood they are in when coming out of the stable.
Emily has a sympathetic but effective way of working them all to achieve harmony between horse and rider, Razzy as we call him at home is a bit of a dude and loves to work work work, he has been part of the Byrds NW teams for a few years including being part of the winning team at the Home International last year and 2nd in the A Squad ride off at Hartpury. He has been to the regionals at every level from novice to advanced medium, we also managed to qualify for the nationals in 2016 at medium level with great support and help off my long term trainer Patsy Bartram!!!
Our aim for this year is to get a couple of PSG’s under our belt and enjoy it!!!
Minnie on the other hand would rather stay in bed after a long night partying in the field but when she comes out at a show will show off and managed to qualify for the summer regionals in 3 tests with scores over 70%.
I don’t know how i ever coped without my mirrors, they are like my best friends when i am training my horses, sometimes i wish they weren’t quite so good at 6am in the morning when i am riding looking bleary eyed and half asleep!!!!
All of the people that visit my yard comment how lovely they look, they are such an asset to any rider or trainer. They are my eyes on the ground when no one else is around!
